upcoming art exhibits

As the summer is coming to a close, so do a number of worthy art exhibitions around the country:

  1. Cezanne and Pissarro at Moma until September 12
  2. Jean-Michel Basquiat
  3. Byron Kim
  4. Landscape Confection

So if you do find yourselves in these wonderful towns (i.e. NYC, LA, San Diego or Houston), try to visit the museums and enhance your summer experience.

Peace and Love.

It took someone from out of town to remind me that I live in a city of culture to last me a lifetime if I got my head out of my little laptop, which I did and boy was it good. Thanks Nic.
I saw the Cezzane and Pissarro exhibit at MoMA. Needless to add it was fabulous. Along the way I saw some pencil sketches by Piccasso. The newly renovated and innovated MoMA is a great spot. The steep entry though ($20) is a bit of a downer - but then again what is cheap in NYC? So a secret - go on Friday (between 4pm to 8pm)its free, but but you do deal with tourists from Iowa, Minnesota (ubiquitous by their State School Sports team sweats and jerseys)who have discovered this secret as well.

That over - headed uptown to the Asia Society (70th/Park Ave.) to enjoy a cocktail mixer and catch the South Asia (until Januray 2006) art exhibit (Buddhist and Hindu diety sculpters). Some of these date from as far back as the 17th century.

Met the events director of Asia Society - Hesh Samarlkar - who is getting ready to leave for Italy and France to shoot 2 movies. He is a budding actor and won the best actor prize for Sangam - a 58 minute short at Sundance 2004. I graciously accepted a DVD of his film about two young men from India who meet on a subway ride in New York City, and their differing perspectives on their lives.

Marcus - my good mate who I had lost touch over the past 2 years accompanied me. Over the past two years he has acted in a few commercials and also the offbest movie - The Intersection which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.

We headed down to the E Village to meet up with some of Marcus' friends, but no before Marcus wanted to try some S-P-I-C-Y Phal at the Brick Lane Curry House on E 6th. Mercifully, we survived and then walked over to THOR - the lounge at the Rivington hotel on the lower east side which apparently was the inspiration for Moby's new CD, aptly titled Hotel.

End of a very cultured evening, as we enjoyed the LES architecture from the huge glass windows of THOR. Being fashion week though, culture met with glamour, before we headed to talk more acting and film across from the IFC cinema to the garden cafe of La Lanterna in the W. Village. All in all a cultured evening thanks to the mention of the exhibit on Nic's blog. Cheers mate.
